RECEPTIONIST OF THE YEAR COMPETITION 2011
ALCATEL-LUCENT CHALLENGE TROPHY |
INTRODUCTION
At the national level, the Hotel Receptionist of the Year Competition is organised by the Association of Rooms Division Executives, Singapore.
The international competition is organised by the Amicale Internationale des Sous-Directeurs et Chefs de Réception des Grands Hôtels. |

OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the Hotel Receptionist of the Year Competition are:
- To recognise the professionalism of the hotel Front Desk employees
- To select a Singapore representative to compete in the David Campbell Trophy - International Hotel Receptionist of the Year Competition to be held in Prague, Czech Republic in January 2012.

COMPETITION FORMAT
(I) National Level
Two stages:
• The Preliminary Round will be held in August 2011 at Conrad Centennial.
• The Final Round will be scheduled in October 2011, venue to be advised.
(II) International Level
• The International Competition will be held in Prague, Czech Republic in January 2012.

TERMS & CONDITIONS
(I) National Level
To qualify for the competition at the national level, the candidate must:
1. Completed the Workforce Skills Qualification (WSQ) Certificate in Hotel & Accommodation Services comprises of the following modules:
1.1. Provide Safety & Security for Guests
1.2. Work Safety
1.3. Handle Reservations
1.4. Interact with guests
1.5. Handle Guest Arrivals
1.6. Maintain Guest Account
1.7. Handle Guest Departure
2. Be available to complete 4 hour workshop on Revenue Management 101 organised by the committee held on
13 July 2011.
3. Be the only candidate nominated by the hotel,
4. Be a confirmed employee of the hotel, working full time as a hotel receptionist (see notes below),
5. Be nominated by the General Manager, and seconded by an ARDE (Association of Rooms Division Executive, Singapore) member of that hotel or FOM/RDM for non-members.
6. Be able to perform proficiently the tasks listed under the section: “Competency Level”.
7. Candidate must be between 18 to 35 years old.
8. Candidate must be a Singapore Resident or Permanent Resident.
9. Candidate must be available to attend one-day boot camp organised by the committee prior to final.
10. The hotel that the winner represents must provide the venue for the preliminary round of the competition in 2012.
Notes
For item 1 above:
- For participants who have not obtained WSQ Certificate in Hotel & Accommodation Services, ARDE will provide a 2-day workshop and 1 day assessment at NO additional cost.
- All participants must obtain the Certificate prior to the announcement of the preliminary results latest by end October.
- For participants who have obtained the certification, a copy of the certificate must be attached to the application form.
For item 3 above:
- “confirmed” means “after probation”, regardless of differences in length of probationary period among hotels.
- if the hotel does not have a (hotel) “receptionist” designation, a candidate holding similar capacity (non-supervisory) with another job title, may be nominated.
For item 9 above:
- Only applies to candidates that have successfully been selected to enter the final round.
- Detailed agenda on the boot camp will be released nearer the date.
(II) International Level
- The winner at the National Level will represent Singapore at the International level.
- The candidate must be working with the hotel that nominated him/her for the competition at the national level at the time of the international competition.
- In the event that the winner cannot represent Singapore due to unforeseen circumstance, the first runner-up at the National Level will replace his/her participation at the International level.
- Final decision on the eligibility of candidate is at the discretion of the Executive Organising Committee.
